Excavation

A strong base is the key to stable, durable results, and during the excavation phase, we’ll use fill where necessary to level and pack the subgrade so that it has the stability to support other layers.

Sub-Base

The sub-base often bears the majority of the load, and we carefully pack crushed aggregate to create a hardened sub-base that helps roads drain and minimizes channelization.

Base Course

Since this layer is immediately under the surface course, it must handle significant load. For this layer, we use only the finest base course materials and take the time to pack the base course as evenly as possible.

Surface Course

The surface course comes in direct contact with the vehicle wheels, and it must resist issues like cracking, raveling, and weather damage. It must also provide a smooth and safe driving surface for vehicles. Whether we’re working with asphalt or gravel, Skywest has the expertise to build a wearing surface that works for the specific needs of each customer.

Clearing and Grubbing

Initially, many building sites require preparation before grading and excavation can proceed. In these cases, our SkyWest team will clear the site of trees, brush and debris. Then, we will remove roots lodged in the soil (a process called grubbing) so that the site is ready for next steps.

Bulk Excavation

Bulk excavation is necessary for a variety of building projects. When you need bulk excavation, we’re here to help. We have the equipment and expertise to handle all types of bulk excavation. During the job, we’ll work to reuse excavated material, helping you avoid unnecessary expenses from material removal and replacement.

Site Preparation

Preparing a worksite for commercial and residential foundations can be an involved process. We’ll work with your construction architects and engineers to understand the soil type we are dealing with, environmental factors, drainage challenges, and any soil contamination issues. Once we have a full understanding of these issues, our team will work safely and efficiently to ensure that your building site is ready to support a foundation.

Trenching

Without adequate preparation and safety precautions, trenching can be hazardous. Fortunately, our trained and skilled operators have the experience to complete any trenching projects. From pipe laying to installing culverts, we can handle the job.

Backfilling

Earthworks is not just about excavation. Often, we’ll need to backfill as we complete site preparation or a trench project. The Skywest team will use the only the best backfill materials and compacting processes so that these materials remain stable in the future.
